Au secours Vauban ! Hé Oui, Louis XIV, à l'époque, n'hésitait pas à faire appel à cet architecte spécialisé dans la construction de cités fortifiées, et pour en créer une près des frontières lors de menaces extérieures. Le Mont-Dauphin, près de Guillestre, en est une. Mais elle mit très longtemps pour être construite sans que les travaux en soient totalement terminés. A l'intérieur de cette citée, il en reste néanmoins un beau village avec une jolie petite fontaine, ainsi qu'une intéressante église, et sans oublier, bien sûr, d'ancien bâtiments militaires comme un pavillon, des casernes, un arsenal, une poudrière...
